KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has announced that she will not be participating in the traditional custom of receiving tika and jamara during this year’s Bada Dashain festival.
While Bada Dashain is a festival celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm, the Prime Minister’s office stated that the decision was made out of respect for the victims of the recent Gen-Z protests. The sorrowful memory of the youths who lost their lives and the pain of the many injured during the protests on September 8 and 9 is still fresh, according to Aadarsh Kumar Shrestha, Chief Personal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
A total of 76 people died during the Gen-Z movement, and approximately 40 more are still receiving treatment in various hospitals.
Prime Minister Karki’s secretariat made it clear that in this moment of grief, she will neither receive tika herself nor administer it to the general public.
