Prachanda blames Gen-Z uprising on Oli-led government

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has said the Gen-Z uprising of September 8-9 was a result of the then government’s failures.

Presenting his political and organizational proposal at the party’s Central Committee meeting on Thursday, Prachanda argued that the protests stemmed from the shortcomings of the KP Sharma Oli-led administration.

“The primary responsibility for the Gen-Z uprising lies with the then government,” he said, adding that public anger went unaddressed while the government was mired in corruption and misconduct.

Prachanda also described the country as being in one of the most critical moments in its history, stressing that he cannot shirk responsibility, though he said he does not wish to cling to the party chairmanship.

Meanwhile, Vice-Chair Janardan Sharma Prabhakar remarked that the uprising reflected the Maoist party’s departure from the path of the People’s War. He insisted that all office bearers should resign and form a directive committee under Prachanda’s leadership.
