Finance Ministry cuts routine meeting and housing allowances for public officials



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance has announced that officials and employees of public bodies will no longer receive meeting allowances for routine work. The decision, issued via a press release on Tuesday, aims to curb unnecessary government expenditure.

However, the ministry clarified that allowances may still be provided for committee meetings formed under law that occur outside regular office hours.

In addition, officials using government-provided, personal, or family-owned residences will no longer be eligible for housing allowances.

Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal, who has taken charge of the ministry, has implemented dozens of measures targeting cost reduction and efficient use of public funds.
