KATHMANDU: The vote-counting of the elections held to elect a new leadership of the Non-Resident of Nepali Association (NRN) is underway. Forty percent of the vote counting has been over as of Friday morning, according to a source at the counting center.

According to the latest vote counting results, Kumar Panta is leading with 70 percent of votes.

Tension flared outside the vote-counting center on Thursday night. The hullabaloo took place after the representative of Kul Acharya, a contestant for the post of NRN chairperson, was barred from entering the counting center.

Police intervened in the confrontation that ensued between the two sides after  Acharya’s side tried to vandalize in a protest.

Acharya is close to Nepali Congress whereas Kumar Panta is to Nepal Communist Party.  The ninth global conference of NRN has drawn flaks over such disputes and skirmishes.
