Landslide destroys six houses, puts 10 more at risk in Parbat

PARBAT: A landslide triggered by heavy rains on Saturday night has completely destroyed six houses in Thanamaula, Phalebas Municipality-8. The landslide, which occurred below the settlement, has also put 10 additional houses at high risk.

According to Ward Chairperson Man Bahadur Kunwar, homes belonging to Min Bahadur Nepali, Nanda Kumari Bhandari, Dil Bahadur Gurung, Asmita Sarki, and Laxmi Pariyar were among those destroyed. An unoccupied house and a shed were also lost in the disaster.

Fortunately, no human or livestock casualties have been reported. Cracks in the ground had appeared earlier, allowing residents to evacuate and move their animals to safety before the landslide struck. Local authorities noted that landslides from the creek below the settlement have been threatening the village for several years.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Robin Bista informed that the displaced families have been temporarily sheltered in tents at the playground of Janajyoti Secondary School.

A team from the District Disaster Management Committee, along with Phalebas Municipality Mayor Gangadhar Tiwari, Deputy Mayor Shobha Chhetri, and other local representatives, visited the affected area.

Mayor Tiwari said five tents have been provided for immediate shelter and assured that efforts are underway to rehabilitate the displaced families through the District Disaster Management Committee and to relocate them to safer areas.
