Ministries demand return of items looted during Gen-Z protests

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has called for the immediate return of items stolen during the Gen-Z demonstrations that took place on September 8 and 9.

According to the Ministry, its premises were vandalized during the protests, with both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles set on fire. In addition to the arson, various office equipment and electronic devices were looted.

Stolen items include televisions, computers, laptops, printers, photocopy machines, microwave ovens, hard drives, scanners, cameras, iPads, mobile phones, heaters, fans, and other office materials.

Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved in the theft and vandalism. The ministry has appealed to anyone who may have taken or received any such items to return them either to the ministry or the nearest police station.

It has warned that legal action will be taken under existing laws if the stolen materials are not returned voluntarily.

Similarly, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development reported the theft of laptops, CCTV cameras, desktop computers, and batteries from motorcycles.

It, too, is working to identify the culprits through CCTV analysis and has issued the same appeal for the return of stolen property, warning of legal consequences for non-compliance.
