Bhojpur’s ‘Suntale-Baghkhor’ emerging as new tourist hotspot

BHOJPUR: The scenic Suntale-Baghkhor area in Bhojpur is fast becoming a popular destination for domestic tourists.

Located near the district headquarters, the area offers stunning views of snowcapped mountains and a peaceful environment, drawing visitors looking to escape the city’s hustle and bustle.

Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Gaurishankar, and other peaks, along with the Arun Valley, Arun River, Salpasilicho Peak, Maiyung Danda, Temke Danda, Chakhewa Bhanjyang, and the Bhojpur headquarters itself.

The site, located at an altitude of around 2,400 meters, also features a view tower and a forest banquet venue to enhance the visitor experience.

According to Ganesh Tamang, a local hotelier in Baghkhor, dozens of tourists arrive daily. “Most tourists visiting Bhojpur make it a point to stop here at least once. The natural beauty and cool, clean climate are major attractions,” he said.

Local dishes, cultural diversity, and the lifestyle of the Rai, Sherpa, and Tamang communities add to the area’s charm. However, Tamang noted that inadequate infrastructure remains a challenge, especially when tourist numbers spike.

The area is easily accessible via the Bhojpur-Dingla road section—Suntale lies 10 km and Baghkhor 12 km from the district headquarters—making it an ideal getaway for nature lovers and cultural enthusiasts alike.
