Deadline for tax payment extended by one month

KATHMANDU: The government has extended the deadline for tax payment by one month.

According to Director General of the Inland Revenue Department, Madan Dahal, the deadline for paying taxes for the month of Shrawan, which was legally due by Bhadra 25, has been extended by one month. “The decision to extend the deadline has already been made and will soon be published in the Nepal Gazette,” he said.

By law, Value Added Tax (VAT), excise duties, and other taxes must be deposited with the concerned tax office by the 25th of every month. This time, however, the deadline has been extended due to the extraordinary situation.

Industrialists and entrepreneurs had requested Finance Minister Rameshwar Prasad Khanal for an extension, saying they were unable to pay on time due to the Gen-Z protests and the subsequent political situation.

During a meeting with the private sector this afternoon, Finance Minister Khanal assured that the deadline would be extended by one month. He also announced that a fund would be established for the reconstruction of damages sustained in both the public and private sectors.
