Jitiya Parva promotes harmony, family unity, and tradition: President

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has extended his best wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali women on the auspicious occasion of Jitiya Parva, 2082.

Jitiya Parva is a festival primarily celebrated by women from the Tharu, Madhesi, and other communities in Nepal’s Terai region. Devotees worship Lord Jimutvahan, praying for the longevity, good health, success, and well-being of their children and families.

On the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Ashwin, women observe a strict fast and purify their body, mind, and soul by preparing and serving a variety of sacred dishes.

In his message, President Paudel highlighted that in a country as diverse as Nepal—rich in multi-ethnic, multilingual, multi-religious, and multicultural traditions—such indigenous festivals have carved out a unique identity and serve as a moral and cultural compass for society.

He further expressed that Jitiya Parva reflects Nepal’s deep-rooted values of mutual respect, harmony, family unity, and love. It also honors women’s devotion and faith, helps preserve original cultural traditions, and fosters social tolerance.

President Paudel also expressed the hope that the festival would bring joy and harmony to all and contribute to strengthening mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence across society.
