Eight parties urge President to withdraw parliament dissolution

KATHMANDU: Eight political parties have urged President Ram Chandra Paudel to withdraw the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives, calling it an attack on constitutional supremacy and the people’s right to vote.

In a joint statement issued on Saturday, the parties said the move undermines democratic institutions and contradicts Article 76(9) of the Constitution, Supreme Court precedents, and Nepal’s constitutional practices.

“The dissolution of the people’s elected parliament has devalued citizens’ voting rights and struck at the heart of constitutional supremacy. We strongly demand that the decision be revoked and parliament be convened immediately to address the people’s demands through elected representatives,” the statement signed by the chief whips of the eight parties reads.

The parties further reiterated their belief that in a democratic and lawful state, all problems must be resolved in accordance with the constitution and the law.
