Road repaired through community labor in Myagdi

MYAGDI: Residents of Ramche in Annapurna Rural Municipality-8 have restored a key section of the Nagi-Ramche road by voluntarily contributing labor.

The road had been blocked by a landslide at Chhaharekhanda near Thawangau in July and remained impassable for nearly two months.

According to Ramche resident Fash Bahadur Garbuja, around 75 locals came together on Thursday to repair the damaged road. “The road closure made it extremely difficult for us to travel and transport agricultural products like potatoes to the market,” Garbuja said.

“Instead of waiting for government assistance, one person from every household in Ramche volunteered to help reopen the road.”

A retaining wall was constructed to replace the washed-away foundation, enabling the passage of jeeps, tractors, and motorcycles.

Due to the dangerous and winding alternative route from Mahabhir to Ramche via Histan-Kafaldanda, locals prefer using the Nagi-Lekphant-Mallaj-Beni road to reach the district headquarters in Beni.

Ramche, known as a major potato-producing area, also hosts the ward office of Annapurna Rural Municipality-8. The road closure had severely affected residents of nearby Nache, who struggled to access the ward office and health post in Ramche.

Students from Ramche and Kafaldanda attending Himanchal Secondary School in Nagi, who had also been facing difficulties, can now travel more easily following the road’s reopening.
