KATHMANDU: Youth organizations affiliated with four major political parties have stressed that Nepal’s future political course must be determined by safeguarding past struggles and progressive changes, and remain firmly within democratic norms.
In a joint statement issued on Thursday, the youth wings of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Centre), and Rastriya Janamorcha said the next political transition should be anchored in the values of democracy and constitutionalism.
“We are clear that Nepal’s future political journey must be charted by protecting the outcomes of past struggles and progressive transformations,” the statement read. “At a time when even the Gen-Z movement is emphasizing the protection of the current constitution, we insist that any political solution should remain under democratic values and norms.”
The four groups underlined that while the country moves toward new change, the fundamental principles of the democratic republic, earned through immense sacrifice, must not be undermined, but rather protected and strengthened.
Calling for unity in the face of crisis, the statement added, “The political exit must be sought within the constitution. In this critical time, we appeal to all youth to remain calm, vigilant, and firmly active in safeguarding Nepal’s democratic republic, nationalism, independence, and sovereignty.”
Acknowledging the heavy toll of recent protests, the organizations expressed sorrow over the deaths and injuries sustained during the Gen-Z–led demonstrations. “The loss of more than 30 lives and injuries to over a thousand people is tragic, heartbreaking, and condemnable,” they said, offering condolences to the victims and their families.
The youth organizations also demanded an impartial investigation into the incidents and punishment of those responsible. At the same time, they expressed support for the Gen-Z movement’s key demands, including a corruption-free nation, transparent governance, justice, and accountability.
“We recall our continued efforts toward addressing these concerns,” the statement noted, adding that effective investigation of corruption cases and strict legal action against the guilty is essential.
While acknowledging the prime minister’s resignation, the youth groups condemned the continuation of violence, arson, vandalism, and looting by unwanted elements in recent days, warning that such actions risk overshadowing the legitimacy of peaceful protest.
