NRB directs BFIs to keep essential banking and digital payment services running

KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has instructed banks and financial institutions to continue operating their critical systems to ensure uninterrupted banking and digital payment services, even under the current restrictions.

In a notice issued on Thursday morning, the central bank directed licensed commercial banks, development banks, finance companies, and institutions involved in payment systems to mobilize limited staff to operate essential services.

The instruction follows the Nepali Army’s recent order mandating that sensitive systems be run with only a minimal workforce, as part of heightened security measures.

For non-essential systems, NRB advised institutions to manage operations through remote access wherever possible. It also requested banks and financial institutions to keep the public informed about operational branches, ATMs, and available services via their official websites and social media platforms.
