Army imposes curfew in Kathmandu valley until Friday

The Nepal Army has imposed a curfew in Kathmandu Valley until Friday, September 12, citing the latest security situation. In a statement issued Wednesday, the Army said the order was necessary to safeguard people and property amid ongoing unrest.

Death toll in Gen-Z protests reaches 30, over 1,000 injured

The Ministry of Health and Population has confirmed that 30 people have died during the ongoing Gen-Z protests, while more than 1,000 have been injured. According to the ministry, a total of 1,033 people sustained injuries during the demonstrations. Of these, 713 have been discharged after treatment, while 253 remain hospitalized across the country.

Nepal Army disperses Gen-Z protesters, asks them to report tomorrow

 Nepali Army personnel intervened at the Army Headquarters in Bhadrakali, dispersing Gen-Z protesters who had gathered to discuss leadership of the prospective interim government. The protesters had come to negotiate with the Army about forwarding names for the interim government leadership. However, disagreements among various groups over preferred candidates escalated into shouting and confusion outside the gates.

China optimistic about swift restoration of peace in Nepal

 China has expressed optimism that peace and order will be restored in Nepal at the earliest. Speaking at a regular press briefing at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, spokesperson Lin Jian said the longstanding friendship between China and Nepal.

Nepali Army extends curfew until Thursday morning

The Nepali Army, which has assumed command of national security, has declared a nationwide curfew until 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, with further curfew orders to continue until 6 a.m. Thursday, according to a statement from the Army’s Directorate of Public Relations and Information. The Army said the decision was taken in light of ongoing threats to public safety, as disruptive elements continue to infiltrate protests, destroying personal and public property, arson, looting, and targeted violent attacks, including attempted assaults.

Tightened movement at Nepal–India border points in Sudurpaschim

Cross-border movement has been tightened at major checkpoints in Sudurpaschim Province following Nepal’s recent unrest. According to Trinagar Police Post, India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has restricted entry to Indian citizens carrying Aadhaar cards only. Nepali citizens entering from India, however, are not barred.

Supreme Court suspends hearings indefinitely after fire guts everything inside

The Supreme Court of Nepal has indefinitely suspended all hearings, citing extensive damage caused by a fire that destroyed the court building on Tuesday. The blaze occurred during protests led by youth activists, leaving the entire Supreme Court premises completely damaged.

Gen-Z recommends interim govt under former CJ Sushila Karki

The Gen-Z movement has proposed the formation of an interim civilian government led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, following internal deliberations and discussions on Wednesday. The proposal has been forwarded to Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel for consideration. A senior military official confirmed the development, stating, “They have proposed the name of the former Chief Justice, although discussions are still ongoing with another group.”

Former CJ Sushila Karki ready to lead interim govt

Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has expressed her willingness to lead the interim government following the virtual meeting of the Gen-Z group. During the lengthy Zoom session, which lasted over five hours, the Gen-Z members reached a consensus to propose Karki for the leadership of the interim government and to hold discussions with Army Chief Ashok Sigdel. Although direct dialogue with Karki had not taken place during the meeting, a subsequent phone conversation confirmed her readiness to assume the role.

Durga Prasai declines leadership role after discussions with Army Chief

Businessman and former commander of the royalist movement, Durga Prasai, has claimed to have held a day-long discussion with Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel regarding Nepal’s current situation and the way forward. Prasai visited the Army Headquarters at Tundikhel along with Gen-Z protesters to engage in dialogue. Sharing a photograph of the meeting on Facebook, he wrote, “Today, I had a deep discussion with Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel about the country’s current situation and the path ahead. After this long discussion, my conclusion is clear, I have no desire for leadership.”

Nepal Army intervenes as prisoners attempt mass escape from Dillibazar Jail

Following the release of Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair Rabi Lamichhane from Nakhu Prison, several prisoners across the country attempted to escape, prompting intervention by the Nepal Army. In the latest incident, hundreds of inmates at Dillibazar Prison in Kathmandu tried to flee, leading the Army to deploy forces and secure the prison premises.

Dispute erupts among Gen-Z youths outside Army HQ over interim leadership

Gen-Z youths who had reached the Nepal Army headquarters to hold talks with Chief of Army Staff Ashok Sigdel after agreeing to back former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as interim prime minister have now split into disputes. The disagreement broke out at the main gate of the Army headquarters, where youths gathered began arguing over who should lead the interim government.

Nepal Army calls for social harmony and national unity

The Nepal Army has appealed to the public to remain calm and maintain social harmony and national unity amid the ongoing unrest. In a statement issued on Thursday, the Army highlighted the importance of preventing the situation from escalating further. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the lives and property of the people.

Over 13,500 prisoners escape nationwide

More than 13,500 inmates have escaped from prisons across Nepal, authorities say, following widespread violence and destruction during Gen-Z protests. According to Binod Ghimire, spokesperson and DIG of the Nepal Police, a total of 13,572 prisoners have fled from correctional facilities nationwide. In addition, 560 detainees who were in police custody for investigation of various cases have also escaped.

UML urges party discipline, calls for political solution within constitution

The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has called on its cadres to remain responsible, calm, and united following widespread violence, arson, and looting across the country on Monday and Tuesday. In a joint statement, General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel and Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali expressed condolences for the 19 people killed and over 400 injured during the anti-corruption protests organized by the Gen-Z movement on September 8–9. They urged a thorough investigation and legal action against those responsible.

Passengers remain stranded outside with airport yet to reopen

Passengers thronged Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Thursday after officials announced the resumption of flights. However, confusion and frustration mounted as travelers were still denied entry despite assurances that operations had resumed. According to the airport office, flights were supposed to reopen with operations every hour. Yet, passengers gathered at the gates said they were repeatedly told that flights would resume soon, but no clear schedule or access was provided.

Nepali Congress calls for restraint, dialogue, and unity to resolve crisis

The Nepali Congress has urged all sides to exercise restraint, hold dialogue, and maintain unity to find a peaceful solution to the ongoing crisis. In a joint statement on Wednesday, General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma called for political actors, security agencies, civil society, the media, and the international community to support peace efforts. They welcomed the President’s initiative for talks with the Gen-Z movement and stressed that any decisions must follow constitutional and democratic procedures.

Nepal Army recovers 7 firearms, arrests 4 looters amid prison unrest

The Nepal Army has recovered seven firearms along with magazines, rounds, and accessories, and arrested four individuals involved in lootings in the Maharajganj area. Additional security operations in Balaju and Machhapokhari led to the seizure of one more firearm, bringing the total recovered weapons to seven.

One killed, seven injured as Army opens fire at Dhading prison break attempt

The Nepali Army opened fire after inmates at Dhading District Prison attempted to escape during an arson attack on Wednesday morning. A 75-year-old man was killed in the firing. According to Dhading Hospital, two people are in serious condition and five others sustained minor injuries.

The Nepal Bar Association has called on security agencies to protect public lives and safeguard national property amid escalating violence during ongoing protests. In a statement issued Wednesday, Bar General Secretary Kedar Prasad Koirala urged law enforcement to restore peace and appealed to the public to remain calm.

A large number of case files at the Supreme Court were destroyed in Tuesday’s blaze triggered during the Gen-Z protests. Nepal Telecom has announced a three-day offer of free data and on-net voice call services to help citizens stay connected during the ongoing crisis. According to company spokesperson Rabindra Manandhar, the service became active from Tuesday night. He said the move was aimed at easing communication between families and relatives both within Nepal and abroad.

Inmate escaping Dillibazar Jail stopped by locals, handed to army

A prisoner who attempted to escape from Dillibazar Jail in Kathmandu has been captured by local youths and handed over to the Nepali Army. According to a video circulating on social media, the inmate had broken through a windowpane to flee the prison premises. Witnesses said locals chased him down after spotting him running away.

Charred body found in fire at Ganga Dahal’s residence in Lalitpur

A burned body has been recovered from the residence of Ganga Dahal, daughter of former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, after the house was set on fire amid ongoing unrest. According to police, the fire broke out inside the closed house in Dholahiti, Lalitpur. During the subsequent inspection, security personnel discovered a charred body inside the premises.

NEPSE to remain closed

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has announced that trading will remain suspended on Wednesday and Thursday this week. In a public notice issued on Wednesday, NEPSE said the market closure is in accordance with Rule 21 of the Securities Listing and Trading Regulations due to extraordinary circumstances.

Nepal Police denies rumors of 32 bodies found inside Parliament

Nepal Police has refuted widespread social media claims that 32 bodies were discovered inside the Parliament building, calling the reports false and misleading. In a statement issued via Facebook on Wednesday morning, police clarified that violent images circulating online were taken from unrelated incidents abroad and were being misused to spread panic.

Anti-government agitation targets media houses in Kathmandu

Anti-government protesters have targeted major media houses in the capital, with Kantipur Publications suffering significant damage after its building in Thapathali was set on fire on Wednesday. According to journalists working at Kantipur, the fire destroyed parts of the first, eighth, and ninth floors of the building. The server room located on the seventh floor was also damaged, forcing the publisher’s online portal, eKantipur, offline. The canteen on the upper floor was completely gutted.
