Durga Prasai declines leadership role after discussions with Army Chief

KATHMANDU: Businessman and former commander of the royalist movement, Durga Prasai, has claimed to have held a day-long discussion with Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel regarding Nepal’s current situation and the way forward.

Prasai visited the Army Headquarters at Tundikhel along with Gen-Z protesters to engage in dialogue. Sharing a photograph of the meeting on Facebook, he wrote, “Today, I had a deep discussion with Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel about the country’s current situation and the path ahead. After this long discussion, my conclusion is clear, I have no desire for leadership.”

Stating his commitment to the country’s interests over personal ambition, Prasai said he respects the voice of the Gen-Z movement and would support anyone prepared to lead, including Balen Shah or Sushila Karki.

“However, turning my back and running away is not my nature. I am ready for any circumstance. At this critical juncture, I will not engage in petty politics or commentary,” Prasai wrote. “What is needed now is seriousness, national unity, and a constructive path forward. Cooperation and suggestions from all are essential to achieve a smooth resolution.”
