KATHMANDU: The Gen-Z-led protests on Tuesday resulted in unprecedented destruction across the capital, leaving historical sites and key government structures severely damaged.
The scenes of devastation, captured via drone footage, show extensive fire and vandalism at landmarks including the Hilton Hotel in Naxal, Bhatbhateni Supermarket, the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, and the President’s Office at Sheetal Niwas.
Several government institutions remain engulfed in flames, including Singha Durbar, the Supreme Court, the Department of Roads, the Parliament building, the Transport Management Office, and the Office of the Attorney General.
Officials described the destruction as heartbreaking, noting that centuries of history have been lost in a matter of hours. The scale of the damage has raised serious concerns over security, heritage preservation, and the continuity of government functions.
Authorities and emergency services continue efforts to control the fires and assess the full extent of the losses.
