KATHMANDU: Despite the massive deployment of the Nepali Army and other security agencies following Tuesday’s widespread destruction, incidents of looting and criminal activity have persisted across the capital and several districts.
On Wednesday, security personnel arrested four people involved in looting at the Bhatbhateni Supermarket in Maharajgunj. The arrests were made between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to the Army.
In another operation, security forces recovered Rs 2.3 million and USD 2,500 abandoned by suspects fleeing the Dillibazar–Narayanthan area after spotting patrol teams.
The Army also confirmed it has so far retrieved 32 looted firearms, including one more recovered on Wednesday.
In Sudurpaschim, 26 inmates who had escaped from Dadeldhura District Prison have been recaptured. Meanwhile, an attempted jailbreak at Kathmandu’s Dillibazar Prison was thwarted by security forces.
Authorities said monitoring has been further tightened in Kathmandu Valley and nationwide. “Those involved in the remaining incidents will soon be brought under the purview of the law,” the Nepali Army stated.
