Nepal-China joint military exercise begins today

HETAUDA: The fifth edition of the joint military exercise between the Nepali and Chinese armies, named ‘Sagarmatha Friendship Exercise’, begins today in Kathmandu.

The 10-day exercise will focus on disaster management, humanitarian assistance, and other areas of mutual cooperation.

According to Nepali Army Spokesperson Rajaram Basnet, the exercise aims to promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise between the two countries’ armed forces.

This marks the third time Nepal is hosting the joint exercise. The first was held in Nepal in 2074 BS, followed by Chengdu, China, in 2075 BS, and again in Nepal in 2076 BS. The exercise was paused for several years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Nepali Army also regularly conducts joint military exercises with several other countries, including India and the United States.
