KANCHANPUR: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak today inspected the flood-affected areas of Dodhara Chandani Municipality in Kanchanpur.
This week’s floods resulted from the breaking of the dam on the Jogbudha River, causing floods in the settlements and damaged 57 houses in Patarakhalla, Sundarbasti Rampur and Jarga of Dodhara Chandani Municipality.
The floods directly displaced over 150 locals. While inspecting the area where the dam was broken, Home Minister Lekhak informed that a budget has been allocated to construct an embankment in the current fiscal year to protect the settlements from the Jogbudha River.
“Due to the floods and inundation of the Mahakali and Jogbudha rivers, Dodhara Chandani has been affected every year,” he said, “To save Dodhara Chandani from flooding, embankments have already been constructed in most areas of the Mahakali and Jogbudha rivers, and budgets have been allocated to construct embankments in the remaining areas, so work will be done within this fiscal year,” Home Minister said.
In the meantime, flood-displaced citizens have urged Minister Lekhak that the government should focus on constructing embankments to protect settlements rather than just providing relief.
The flood of Jogbudha River has inundated 25 houses in Rampure and Jarga Tole of Dodhara Chandani Municipality-8.
Similarly, 15 houses in Patarakhalla of Dodhara Chandni-3 and two armed police posts have also been displaced.
