India’s Chief Justice B. R. Gavai in Lumbini



LUMBINI: India’s Chief Justice B. R. Gavai i visited the sacred birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha in Lumbini today. This marks his first visit to Nepal since assuming the highest judicial office in India, and he described the visit as a special spiritual occasion.

Gavai was welcomed by officials of the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT), including Vice-Chair Dr. Lharkyal Lama, Member-Secretary Sanuraja Shakya, Executive Member Shyam Rokka, and Senior Administrative Chief Gyanin Rai, along with other staff.

During his visit, the Chief Justice was briefed on the historical and religious significance of the Lumbini area. He visited the Maya Devi Temple complex, observed the exact birthplace of Buddha, recited sutras, and performed a ceremonial lamp-lighting prayer for world peace, human welfare, Nepal’s progress, and continued friendly ties between India and Nepal.

Following the tour, Gavai met with LDT officials to review the master plan and ongoing development projects. He appreciated Nepal’s efforts to promote Lumbini internationally and expressed confidence that India’s collaboration in the region would continue. Vice-Chair Lama presented the Chief Justice with a statue of Buddha as a gift.

The program also included discussions between Nepalese and Indian judges and legal experts on mutual experiences, challenges, and opportunities in the judicial sector.

The Lumbini Development Trust stated that Chief Justice Gavai’s visit is expected to further enhance Nepal’s tourism, cultural, and religious prominence through Lumbini on the international stage.
