Nepal, India PMs to jointly lay foundation stone of Dodhara-Chadani dry port: Home Minister

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that the foundation stone for a dry port at Dodhara-Chadani in Kanchanpur will be jointly laid by the prime ministers of Nepal and India during the Nepali Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to New Delhi.

Speaking at a training program organized by the Nepali Congress Training Department of Constituency-3 in Dodhara-Chadani on Saturday, Minister Lekhak announced that the proposed facility would be the largest dry port in the country.

“A dry port of national scale will be built here in Dodhara-Chadani,” he said. “Its foundation stone will be laid jointly by the prime ministers of both countries.”

He said that development activities in Dodhara-Chadani have gained momentum in recent years. Once known for its vulnerability to floods, the area has become more secure with the construction of embankments along the Mahakali and Jogbudha rivers.

“With the construction of the country’s largest concrete bridge over the Mahakali River, hospitals and campuses have been established here,” Lekhak said. “Embankments are being built at remaining points of the Jogbudha River to protect residents from floods, with budget already allocated for the purpose.”

Highlighting the political role of his party, Lekhak said that the Nepali Congress was instrumental in drafting Nepal’s constitution and that it must also take responsibility for protecting it. Strengthening republican governance, he added, requires the party’s continued leadership.

The Home Minister further noted that the present government has initiated key policy and legal reforms, acknowledging the support of civil servants in implementing them.
