KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that political parties themselves are not inherently wrong, but individuals associated with them can make mistakes.
Speaking at a workshop titled “BP’s Ideals and Contemporary Nepali Politics” organized by NC Kathmandu Metropolitan City–30 on Saturday, Thapa stressed the need for internal purification within the party.
“Congress has been a national party since its establishment. Mistakes are made by individuals, not the party. Those who make mistakes must bear responsibility themselves,” Thapa said.
He further noted that the principles of BP Koirala remain equally relevant today, emphasizing that the party and its senior leaders must act in line with BP’s ideology.
“The Congress must be free from fear and greed. Whether or not we are in government is not the real issue. Out of fear of losing elections or greed to remain in power, we should not enter alliances where we end up voting under another party’s election symbol,” Thapa said.
Also speaking at the program were Dal Bahadur Karki, president of NC Kathmandu–30 working committee, and Bimal Kumar Hoda, president of Province Assembly Constituency 4(A), who highlighted BP’s contributions and shared their views on the current political situation.
