KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN-UML has claimed that it now has more than 662,000 organized members across Nepal and abroad, according to the organizational report presented at the party’s second statute convention in Godavari, Lalitpur, on Friday.
The report, tabled by party chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, puts UML’s total membership at 662,961. Among them, 457,145 are men and 258,016 are women.
According to the document, Madhes Province has emerged as the party’s strongest base with more than 156,000 registered members, while Karnali Province has the smallest organization with just under 48,000 members. In Koshi Province, UML claims over 147,000 members, while Bagmati Province has more than 116,000. Lumbini Province has 80,352, Sudurpaschim Province counts 63,110 and Gandaki Province stands at 55,512. The Kathmandu Valley Special Province has 8,781 members, and under its ‘contact’ category the party lists 13,752 members. The central office itself has 850 registered members.
The report also highlights the party’s presence beyond Nepal’s borders. UML claims to have 1,752 organized members in India and another 4,620 in other foreign countries, underlining its efforts to expand influence among the diaspora.
