Monsoon trough shifts south, rain likely across Nepal



KATHMANDU: With the monsoon trough currently situated south of its average position, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast generally cloudy weather across Nepal, accompanied by rain in several regions this afternoon.

There is a possibility of moderate rainfall in some areas of the hilly regions and the Terai, including Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Likewise, the weather will remain generally cloudy across the country tonight as well. Moderate rain is expected in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

There is also a possibility of heavy rainfall in one or two locations in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

The Division has warned of potential landslides and debris flows due to the rainfall, along with rising water levels in both large and small rivers and streams. It has also cautioned that transportation services may be affected and has urged the public to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
