KATHMANDU: The UML is set to hold its second Statute General Convention from September 5 to 7 at Sunrise Hall in Godawari, Lalitpur, with preparations now nearly complete, the party’s central office confirmed.
According to Rajendra Gautam, a Standing Committee member and head of the party’s Publicity and Publication Department, both the list of delegates and organizers has been finalized.
Delegates from the party’s 10th National General Convention will serve as the representatives for the Statute General Convention, with names of leaders who have left the party, passed away, or faced disciplinary action removed from the list.
“Vacant positions cannot be replaced, nor can central members appointed after the 10th Convention or from other parties serve as delegates. They can participate only as organizers,” Gautam clarified. A total of 2,034 delegates and 2,349 participants will attend the convention.
The central office has already sent invitations via SMS to all delegates. For those whose mobile numbers are outdated, district committees have been instructed to ensure they are informed. The party has announced the convention’s main slogan: ‘Building Decisive National Power is Our Resolve, Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali – Our National Goal.’
Dr. Bhishma Adhikari, Secretary at the central office, said three key reports, political, organizational, and statute, are being printed for presentation. Reports from the Election Commission, Disciplinary Committee, Audit Commission, and Advisory Council are also in print. Delegate ID cards have been prepared and can be accessed online.
For entry, Sunrise Hall will have four digital gates where delegates must scan the QR code on their ID cards. Catering has been assigned to a banquet service to provide meals and snacks.
Preparations at the hall include stage setup and decorations. Local committees and party-affiliated organizations are erecting welcome gates from Satdobato to Godawari, with banners and flags displaying the sickle-hammer and sun symbols. Lalitpur district committee will place flags along the streets, while Bhaktapur district committee will install banners and flags across ten pedestrian bridges and major intersections from Jadibuti to Suryavinayak.
The party Chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will lead the convention’s opening ceremony. A preparatory meeting to finalize the schedule is set for Monday under the supervision of Party General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel.
The party plans a press conference on September 4 to announce final preparations, Gautam said.
