Afghanistan earthquake: At least 20 dead, several missing

KABUL: A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan at a shallow depth of just 8 kilometers, causing widespread devastation.

According to officials, at least 20 people have been confirmed dead, while over 100 others are receiving treatment for injuries.

Multiple Taliban government sources report that dozens of homes have been buried under rubble, and the death toll is expected to rise.

Authorities have appealed to humanitarian agencies for assistance in rescue operations, particularly in remote mountainous regions where access is limited due to landslides and flooding—some areas can only be reached by air.

The tremor was felt as far away as Kabul and Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, more than 300 kilometers from the epicenter.
