Chinese President Xi welcomes PM Oli at SCO summit

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his wife Radhika Shakya was welcomed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan at the venue of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus summit. President Xi greeted PM Oli on the red carpet arranged for the heads of participating countries. The summit hosts leaders from major global powers.

Despite Nepal’s objection, India silent on Lipulekh trade route; Modi announces resumption of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Nepal has expressed strong objection after China and India recently agreed to open a trade route via Lipulekh Pass, territory claimed by Nepal, during Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to New Delhi earlier this month. Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that Lipulekh, along with Kalapani and Limpiyadhura east of the Kali River, is an integral part of Nepal under the 1816 Sugauli Treaty. Kathmandu formally conveyed its dissatisfaction with the agreement.

Dairy farmers stage sit-in at DDC demanding payment

Dairy farmers staged a sit-in at the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) office in Lainchaur, Kathmandu, on Sunday, demanding payment for their milk supplies. Farmers said they have not received payment for a long time and gathered outside the DDC office to press their demands. They attempted to enter the office premises but were stopped by police, leading to scuffles between farmers and security personnel.

PM Modi, Xi Jinping ‘recognize role of India-China’s economies to stabilize world trade’

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, during the bilateral meeting in Tianjin, recognized the role of India and China’s economies in stabilizing the world trade, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Sunday. The statement comes as the world is grappling with US President Donald Trump’s tariffs, which the US Appeals Court has itself ruled as “illegal.” On April 2, President Donald Trump announced tariffs targeting around 60 countries or trade blocs with significant trade deficits with the United States, marking the largest US tariff hike in almost 100 years. He called the occasion “Liberation Day”.

Landslide hits under-construction border post in Rasuwagadhi

A landslide struck near the Nepal–China border post in Rasuwagadhi on Sunday morning, halting construction work and damaging infrastructure in the area. The landslide occurred about 200 meters ahead of the border post with a loud noise around 8 a.m. Binay Das Tharu, a 19-year-old from Parsa working at a garage in Ghattekhola near the post, was injured after a stone struck his head. He received first aid at the Timure health post and was later referred to Kathmandu for further treatment, according to Police Inspector Krishna Dhital of the District Police Office.

Floods and landslides block 16 roads across Nepal

At least 16 roads and highways across the country have been completely blocked today due to floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall, severely affecting transportation and public movement. In Kathmandu, the Dharke Road has been rendered impassable, while in Sankhuwasabha, a section of the Koshi Highway at Bhotkhola is also blocked. Rasuwa district has seen multiple disruptions, including the Nepal–China Friendship Bridge and parts of the Pasang Lhamu Highway. Similarly, in Sindhupalchowk, a major landslide has blocked the Araniko Highway. The Pasang Lhamu Road in Nuwakot and the Beni–Darwang Road in Myagdi have also been completely obstructed.

Indian PM Modi calls Nepal–India ties very special after meeting PM Oli in China

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi held a sideline meeting during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China. The two leaders met briefly in one of the halls of the SCO venue. Following the talks, Modi shared a smiling photo of the meeting on social media platform X. “Glad to have met Prime Minister KP Oli of Nepal in Tianjin, China. The relationship between India and Nepal is deep and very special,” Modi wrote.

Jhalanath, Ghanashyam rally against Madhav Nepal

Internal rifts within the CPN (Unified Socialist) have deepened, with the conflict escalating to parallel gatherings of rival factions. On Sunday, senior leader Jhalanath Khanal organized a separate factional meeting in opposition to party chair Madhav Kumar Nepal. General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal and leader Ramkumari Jhankri also joined the dissident group. Vice-chair Jayanti Rai, Dr. Bijay Paudel, Kedar Sanjel, Dharma Raj Niraula, Hirendra Shahi, and Garima Shah were among the participants. Standing Committee member Hari Parajuli, Politburo member Laxman Lamsal, and former Youth Union chair Naresh Kumar Shahi were also present.

PM Oli and his Vietnamese counterpart Chinh hold meeting

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, held a bilateral meeting today. Both Prime Ministers are now in China in course of participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. During the meeting, they discussed the various aspects of cultural, diplomatic and economic relations and cooperation between the two countries, according to the Foreign Ministry.

Bidya Bhandari intensifies UML outreach despite party tensions

Despite obstruction from CPN-UML Chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has resumed active politics with the UML and is currently visiting Madhesh Province to strengthen ties with party leaders and activists. She arrived in Birgunj, Parsa, on Saturday morning for a program and has since been meeting with UML cadres throughout her visit.

Gold price hits record high

The price of gold, which surpassed Rs 200,000 per tola on Friday, rose even further on Sunday, setting a new record. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Federation, gold increased by Rs 3,000 in a single day, reaching Rs 203,600 per tola — the highest price ever recorded in the country. On the previous trading day, gold was priced at Rs 200,600 per tola.

PM Oli visits Zhou Enlai Memorial Museum in China

Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli visited the Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao Memorial Museum in Tianjin, China, on Sunday morning, according to his personal secretariat. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Oli also toured the rice production special zone in Xiaozhan, located in the Jinan District.
