Dairy farmers stage sit-in at DDC demanding payment

KATHMANDU: Dairy farmers staged a sit-in at the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) office in Lainchaur, Kathmandu, on Sunday, demanding payment for their milk supplies.

Farmers said they have not received payment for a long time and gathered outside the DDC office to press their demands. They attempted to enter the office premises but were stopped by police, leading to scuffles between farmers and security personnel.

Sarita Bhusal, General Secretary of the All Nepal Peasants’ Federation, said that despite repeated calls to the DDC and other concerned authorities, the dues have not been cleared, leaving farmers with no option but to protest. She claimed that over NPR 3 billion in payments to dairy farmers remain pending.

Bhusal also objected to what she described as the use of police force to suppress the farmers’ peaceful agitation.

Farmers complained that the delay in payments has severely affected their livelihoods.
