KATHMANDU: The Tharu Joint Struggle Committee has expressed strong objection to statements made by Resham Lal Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, against leaders of the Tharu community.
The remarks were made during an event organized by the Nepal Magar Association in Kathmandu to commemorate the late Gore Bahadur Khapangi Magar, former president of the association.
During his speech, Chaudhary alleged that Tharu leaders were responsible for sending him to prison. The Struggle Committee described these claims as baseless and politically dishonest.
“Chaudhary’s accusation that Tharu leaders sent him to jail has drawn serious attention from the Tharu Joint Struggle Committee,” said a statement issued by committee coordinator Premilal Chaudhary.
The committee criticized Chaudhary for making unfounded allegations against Tharu leaders who have been actively demanding the public release of the high-level judicial committee report on the Tikapur incident, calling it a grave attack on the spirit and sentiment of the Tharuhat movement.
“Even while advocating for the unconditional release of all political prisoners, Chaudhary’s attempt to blame Tharu leaders is politically dishonest and completely unacceptable,” the statement added.
The Struggle Committee has demanded that Chaudhary immediately retract his statement and publicly apologize.
“We urge Chaudhary to correct his false allegations, withdraw his remarks immediately, and issue a public apology. Moving forward, we call on him to refrain from making such irresponsible statements,” the statement concluded.
