Hold talks to address sugarcane farmers’ demands: Gagan Thapa

DHANUSHA: General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has urged the government to hold talks to the concerned bodies in a bid to resolve the problems facing sugarcane farmers for long.

Talking briefly to media persons at Janakpur Airport here Thursday, General Secretary Thapa suggested that the government could garner views from diverse sectors to know more about demands of sugarcane farmers. The farmers’ need to get more price for their produce is genuine, he added.

He wondered why the Ministry of Agriculture was denying the subsidy of Rs 70 per quintal of sugarcane to the farmers. Thapa further viewed farmers’ plight can not be ignored at all. Dialogues must be held to sort out the issues on time, according to him.

On a different note, the NC leader made it clear that despite some differences between NC and UML, change in present government can not be imagined now.
