SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship: Nepal to face B’desh today

KATHMANDU: Nepal will take on Bangladesh today in its third match of the ongoing SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship in Bhutan.

The match will kick off at 6:45 PM Nepali time at Changlimithang Stadium, Thimphu.

Both teams have played two matches each so far, registering one win and one loss. Nepal suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat against India in its opening match but bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Bhutan. Bangladesh, on the other hand, beat Bhutan 3-1 in its first match and lost 2-0 to India.

Bangladesh has shown consistent performance in women’s football across various age groups in recent years.

Four teams—Nepal, India, Bangladesh, and host Bhutan—are competing in the tournament, which follows a double round-robin format. The team with the highest points at the end of the tournament on August 31 will be crowned champions.

India currently tops the table with 6 points from 2 matches. Nepal and Bangladesh are level on 3 points, but Bangladesh holds second place due to a superior goal difference. Nepal sits third. India is scheduled to play Bhutan in today’s other match.
