Mechi Customs revenue rises despite decline in trade volume



JHAPA: The Mechi Customs Office has reported revenue collection of Rs 1.265 billion and 79 thousand in the first month of the current fiscal year—an increase of 7.74 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to Ishwor Kumar Humagai, Information Officer at the Mechi Customs Office, revenue collection during Shrawan of the previous fiscal year stood at Rs 1.174 billion and 91 thousand.

“Although both imports and exports through Mechi Customs declined by 4.90 percent and 14.68 percent respectively, revenue from imports rose by 6.87 percent and from exports by a significant 80.14 percent,” he said.

The Kakarbhitta border point facilitates the import of petroleum products, transport vehicles and their spare parts, mineral products, footwear, cosmetics, and more. Key export items include tea, cardamom, amriso, and ginger.
