Prachanda to visit Rabi Lamichhane at Nakkhu Prison
CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is set to visit Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane, who is currently in judicial custody at Nakkhu Prison. According to RSP spokesperson Manish Jha, Prachanda is scheduled to meet Lamichhane at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
Ranjita appoints herself as parliamentary party leader of Nagarik Unmukti Party
Nagarik Unmukti Party Chair Ranjita Shrestha Chaudhary has appointed herself as the leader of the party’s parliamentary group, removing Gangaram Chaudhary from the position. In a letter submitted to Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire on Wednesday, Shrestha stated that Gangaram had acted against the party’s interests and failed to provide a satisfactory response to the clarification sought under party statute provisions.
Maoist lawmaker accuses NC–UML of pushing two-party mission
Main opposition lawmaker Shakti Bahadur Basnet of the CPN (Maoist Centre) has accused the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML of advancing a mission to impose a two-party system in Nepal. Speaking during the zero hour of Wednesday’s House of Representatives meeting, Basnet said the two parties, by forming alliances and running the government together, appeared to be working toward a two-party arrangement.
Cabinet announces 25 decisions: Japan loan approved for Koteshwor junction upgrade, suspended insurance authority chief Ojha dismissed
The government has made public 25 decisions from the Cabinet meeting held on August 18. The announcements were shared by government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung. Among the decisions, two carry significant public interest. The Cabinet approved a concessional loan of Rs 3.08 billion from the Government of Japan to ease traffic congestion at Koteshwor junction, one of the busiest points along Kathmandu’s inner ring road.
Congress and UML secure two-thirds majority with Ranjita’s Support
Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) Chair Ranjita Shrestha has once again extended support to the government, giving Congress and UML the numbers they need to move forward with their plan to unseat Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Congress and UML had begun collecting signatures from their lawmakers on Tuesday in preparation for a no-confidence motion against the Deputy Speaker. Ranjita also attended the ruling coalition’s meeting held soon after.

Lamichhane shared his concerns with CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ during their conversation on Wednesday evening at Nakkhu Prison.
RPP protests signature drive to oust Deputy Speaker
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has strongly objected to the ruling parties’ move to collect signatures aimed at removing Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar after failing to secure a majority in the Constitutional Council. Speaking during Tuesday’s session of the House of Representatives, RPP lawmaker Roshan Karki accused the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML of orchestrating the signature campaign to pave the way for an impeachment motion against the Deputy Speaker.

The opposition Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has expressed concern that the signature collection campaign conducted by the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML poses a significant threat to democracy. Q&A session with PM Oli postponed
The monthly question-and-answer session between the Prime Minister and members of parliament, usually held during the first week in the House of Representatives, will not take place this Wednesday. A direct Q&A session with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had been scheduled for the House of Representatives’ Wednesday meeting. However, due to health reasons, Prime Minister Oli will not be present to answer questions from lawmakers.
Federal Democratic Front to meet to discuss Gaur massacre and Rupandehi-3 by-election
The seven-party alliance centered in the Tarai-Madhesh region, the Federal Democratic Front, is set to hold a meeting on Wednesday to take a joint stance on the Gaur massacre case. Upendra Yadav, president of one of the alliance’s key constituents, the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, is reportedly involved in the case, prompting the discussion. Hridesh Tripathi, president of another constituent, the Janata Pragatisheel Party Nepal, confirmed that the meeting will be held at 5:00 PM at the party office in Thapagaun.
HoR endorses proposal to consider amendment to Children’s Act
The House of Representatives on Thursday unanimously approved a proposal to consider the Children’s (First Amendment) Bill, 2025. The proposal was presented by Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi. Minister Sudi said the amendment was necessary to address gaps in the existing law and would be particularly useful in the management of juvenile correction centers.
Nepal secure second straight win in Top End T20 Series
Nepal registered their second consecutive victory in the ongoing Top End T20 Series in Australia’s Northern Territory, defeating the Melbourne Renegades Academy by 33 runs on Wednesday. NEPSE drops by 9.70 points, closes at 2,767.2
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell by 9.70 points on Wednesday, closing at 2,767.2. Turnover also declined compared to Tuesday. The total transaction amount stood at Rs 5.20 billion, down from Tuesday’s Rs 5.63 billion. Out of the traded companies, 59 saw their share prices rise, 188 declined, and two remained unchanged.
Health Ministry requests details of vacant posts from Health Institutions
The Ministry of Health and Population has requested its subordinate hospitals and health institutions to provide details of vacant positions. Letters have been sent to 26 health institutions, including the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences, asking them to submit the required information within seven days.
Private schools warn of nationwide protests if Education Bill is not amended
Private school operators have warned of strong protests if the government fails to amend the School Education Bill, saying provisions in the draft legislation threaten the very existence of private institutions. In a joint statement issued by the National Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation (N-PABSON) and the Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal (PABSON), the groups objected to provisions they said would undermine private schools and the quality of education.
Gold, silver prices see decline on Wednesday
The price of gold declined on Wednesday, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association. The price of fine gold has been fixed at Rs 193,500 per tola, dropping Rs 1,600 per tola.
NRB to absorb Rs 30 billion from banking system
The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has announced it will withdraw Rs 30 billion from the banking system through a bidding process on Wednesday. According to the central bank, financial institutions can submit their bids online until 3:00 PM. The fund absorption will remain effective until September 14.
