KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane, who is currently serving jail time over his alleged involvement in the Supreme Cooperative fraud case, has developed health complications due to a lack of vitamin D.
Lamichhane has been in custody since April 7. Initially held at the Bhairahawa prison, he was later transferred to Nakkhu Jail in Lalitpur. According to doctors, over four months of confinement without sufficient exposure to sunlight has led to vitamin D deficiency in his body.
Dr. Jitendra Prasad Yadav from the Trauma Center recently visited Nakkhu Jail to provide medical advice to Lamichhane, recommending caution and preventive measures.
An RSP leader said Lamichhane rarely saw daylight while in Bhairahawa prison, where he was confined to a dark cell, and the problem worsened after his transfer to Nakkhu.
His skin reportedly appeared yellow, initially raising concerns about jaundice. However, doctors confirmed that the symptoms were linked to vitamin D deficiency rather than liver complications.
