Private school operators announce protest against Education Bill

KATHMANDU: Private school operators have announced a series of protests expressing dissatisfaction with the School Education Bill recently endorsed by the parliamentary Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee.

Two major associations, PABSON and N-PABSON, jointly unveiled their protest programs. As part of the plan, memorandums will be submitted today to municipal mayors and heads of education sections.

On Friday, the groups will submit memorandums to the Chief District Officer, District Coordination Committee, and Education Development and Coordination Unit. On August 17, similar submissions will be made to provincial chief ministers and ministers for social development.

According to the protest schedule, on August 18, operators will present memorandums to lawmakers from their respective constituencies and hold a virtual meeting of the National Council to collect suggestions.

Preparatory meetings for protests will be held at the municipal level on August 19, district level on August 20, and provincial level on August 21. On August 22–23, interaction programmes with stakeholders will be organized at the central and provincial levels.

In a joint statement signed by PABSON Chair Krishna Prasad Adhikari and N-PABSON Chair Subash Nyaupane, all committees at different levels have been urged to make necessary preparations for the protests.
