SC rejects Mukul Dhakal’s petition to reinstate him as RSP General Secretary

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition filed by Mukul Dhakal, founding General Secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), seeking reinstatement to his former post.

The decision was issued on Tuesday by a bench comprising Justices Nahakul Subedi and Sunil Kumar Pokharel, who concluded the hearing and ordered the petition’s dismissal. Along with the dismissal, the Court issued a directive order, the full text of which has not yet been released.

Dhakal had claimed to be the legitimate General Secretary of the party and demanded to work in that capacity. Earlier, a two-judge bench led by Justices Hari Prasad Phuyal and Nityananda Pandey had ordered the party to submit all documents related to disputed decisions and correspondence.

Prior to that, on June 26, Justice Kumar Regmi had summoned both parties to discuss whether to issue an interim order, but no interim ruling was made.

Dhakal was removed from his post and even expelled from the party on July 10, 2024, accused of acting against party interests.

Following his removal, Dhakal claimed he was ousted from the party’s “Rabi’s Club” faction. Subsequently, he contested the decision by filing a petition in court, demanding reinstatement as General Secretary.
