Rabi Lamichhane ordered to remain in custody in Supreme Cooperative Fraud Case

BUTWAL: Rabi Lamichhane, Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been ordered to remain in custody by the District Court of Rupandehi.

The order was issued by Judge Narayan Prasad Sapkota’s bench. Lamichhane has been held in Rupandehi prison since April 7 in connection with the Supreme Cooperative fraud case in Butwal.

Lamichhane has maintained his innocence, claiming that he was not involved in the cooperative scam and expressed his willingness to personally ensure the return of the savers’ deposits. He filed a petition on Monday, August 4, at the Rupandehi District Court requesting release on bail by providing a bank guarantee equal to the amount of his share of the alleged scam.

The petition was scheduled for a hearing before Judge Narayan Sapkota in Bench No. 10.

Along with the petition, Lamichhane submitted a bank guarantee of R 2.7 million, representing the amount of the scam money attributed to him.

Earlier, on April 4, the Butwal bench of the High Court in Tulsipur had ordered Lamichhane to be held in pretrial detention. The Supreme Court had also upheld that order.
