Landslide kills one worker, injures three at Super Nyadi Hydropower Project



LAMJUNG: A worker at the under-construction 40.27 MW Super Nyadi Hydropower Project in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-6, Lamjung, died after being buried by a landslide this afternoon. Three others were injured in the incident.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramesh Bohora of the District Police Office, the deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Lagan Dhwaj Gurung, originally from Besisahar Municipality-8, where he was temporarily residing.

The injured are 21-year-old Biraj Gurung of Dordi Rural Municipality-5, 35-year-old Pritam Lama of Madhya Nepal Municipality-7, and 25-year-old Bikash Bista of Jhimruk Rural Municipality-6, Pyuthan. They are undergoing treatment at Province Hospital Lamjung in Besisahar.

DSP Bohora said the landslide struck the workers’ camp while they were having lunch, and the victims were hit while attempting to flee. About 40 workers were staying at the camp, but only four were caught in the landslide. The remaining 36 workers are safe.

Police said further details of the incident are yet to be confirmed.
