12 people arrested on gambling charges in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: Twelve individuals have been arrested from two separate locations in Kathmandu on charges of gambling.

Five people were apprehended from a hotel in Nagarik Bazaar, located in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16. Among them was 31-year-old Raju from Gangajamuna Rural Municipality-6, Dhading.

They were arrested while gambling at a hotel owned by Raju’s uncle on Wednesday afternoon. Police deployed from the Raniban Police Circle seized Rs 56,135 in cash and a deck of cards from the scene.

In a separate incident, seven individuals were arrested while gambling at the residence of Bijay Thapa, a local of Machhapokhari, also in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16.

Those arrested included 52-year-old Laxmi Tamang from Bhadrapur Municipality-1, Jhapa, who currently resides at the same location. Police from the Balaju Police Circle seized Rs 16,300 in cash and three decks of cards during the operation.
