Rain expected in hilly areas as monsoon intensifies

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that monsoon winds are currently active across Nepal, with the monsoon’s low-pressure trough hovering around its average position.

According to the Department, the weather will remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in many hilly areas, including Sudurpaschim Province, and in some parts of the remaining provinces as well as the Terai.

Tonight, the hilly regions are expected to remain generally cloudy, while the Terai will see partial cloud cover. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in some hilly areas and isolated parts of the Terai. One or two locations in the hilly regions of Gandaki Province may experience heavy rainfall.

The Department has urged all concerned to remain alert due to the risk of landslides, soil erosion, and flooding, particularly in urban and Terai regions. Rising water levels in rivers and streams may pose additional hazards.

Authorities and the public are advised to take necessary precautions, as excessive rainfall could disrupt daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, construction, and both road and air transportation.
