BHARATPUR: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has announced the start of scheduled power outages in parts of Chitwan, with a six-hour daily load shedding implemented in eastern areas of the district starting today.
According to the NEA’s Chanauli Distribution Center, the outages are being enforced due to a significant increase in electricity demand, particularly from irrigation users, amid intense heat and insufficient rainfall during the planting season.
The load shedding affects areas supplied by the Narayani-Madi, Meghauli-Bijaynagar-Shukranagar, and Jagatpur-Rampur feeders under the Chanauli Distribution Center.
The distribution center explained that the 33 kV dog conductor line from the Bharatpur 132/33 kV substation is only capable of carrying up to 300 amperes of current.
However, demand has now surged, and the line is currently overloaded, transmitting 450 amperes—exceeding its safe capacity.
To address the issue, a new 33 kV transmission line is under construction to supply electricity from the Baseni substation, though it is still incomplete.

6:00 AM – 9:00 AM
3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Meghauli-Bijaynagar-Shukranagar feeders:
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Jagatpur-Rampur feeders:
12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
9:00 PM – 12:00 AM
The NEA has advised residents and businesses in affected areas to plan accordingly and says efforts are underway to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
