Four Nepali athletes to compete in World Aquatics Championships



KATHMANDU: Four swimmers from Nepal are set to represent the country at the World Aquatics Championships being held in Singapore. A six-member Nepali team, including the four athletes, left for Singapore tonight.

The team includes two male and two female swimmers. Irvin Shrestha will compete in the 100m and 200m freestyle events, while Ajalkaji Tamrakar will participate in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

On the women’s side, Olympian Duwana Lama is scheduled to compete in the 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke, and Arya Maharjan will take part in the 50m and 100m freestyle.

Shankar Karki is serving as the team’s head coach, and the delegation is being managed by Bikash Sharma.

The championships, which began on July 11, will run through August 3. According to Gangalal Gole, Secretary of the Nepal Swimming Association, Nepali swimmers will begin competing on July 27.

Coach Karki noted that the event will be an important opportunity to prepare for the upcoming 20th Asian Games, and he expressed optimism about his team’s performance.
