Rajkumar Timilsina arrested over fake audio in ‘Dark File’ case

ITAHARI: Rajkumar Timilsina, who was sentenced to six months in jail by the Supreme Court for supplying a fake audio recording used in the controversial ‘Dark File’ report by Sidha Kura Online, was arrested on Sunday.

According to the Area Police Office in Itahari, Timilsina was arrested from within the police premises itself, where he had arrived for discussions related to a separate legal matter concerning his wife.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Laxmi Bhandari stated that Timilsina initially entered the police office using a false name and address, which raised suspicions.

During questioning, he failed to provide consistent identification, prompting police to verify his documents. A cross-check of his PAN card revealed his true identity.

“Initially, he gave a different name and showed suspicious behavior,” said DSP Bhandari. “Upon further interrogation, we discovered his real identity and confirmed he was a fugitive defendant in the Dark File audio case.”

Timilsina had been on the run since October 2024, after the Supreme Court sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment for contempt of court.

He was found guilty of producing and providing a fabricated audio recording that attempted to tarnish the image of journalists, media entrepreneurs, legal professionals, and justices.

The audio was aired by Sidhakura.com as part of its widely circulated ‘Dark File’ report. A nine-member bench of the Supreme Court found the audio to be fake and defamatory, ruling that its production and broadcast amounted to contempt of court.

Along with Timilsina, a journalist involved in the case had also received a prison sentence.
