Xi visit: Public holiday on Sunday

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to give a public holiday on Sunday – the second day of the two-day state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The cabinet meeting on Thursday had decided to give a public holiday on Sunday following a proposal by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA).

The decision to this effect was made in order to manage the movement of President Xi’s motorcade in Kathmandu as well as to ensure that people are not stuck in traffic.

It should be noted that the government had given a public holiday during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chinese President Xi is arriving in Nepal at 4: 30 pm on a state visit on Saturday.

During the visit, Nepal will likely emphasize the issue of connectivity.

Xi is arriving in Kathmandu tomorrow on the invitation of President Bidhya Devi Bhandari. He will return on Sunday.
