Suspend CAAN DG over Pokhara Airport irregularities, demands Prem Ale

KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) lawmaker Prem Ale has demanded the immediate suspension of Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Pradeep Adhikari, along with seven others, citing their involvement in irregularities at Pokhara Regional International Airport.

Speaking during zero hour in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Ale urged the government to initiate disciplinary proceedings without delay.

“I would like to request the government to immediately suspend the CAAN Director General and the other seven officials and begin the process of taking action,” Ale stated.

He reminded Parliament that the Public Accounts Committee of the House had, on May 21, concluded that there were financial irregularities at the airport and recommended to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) that action be taken against those involved.

“It has already been around 47 days since the recommendation was made,” Ale said. “Yet, none of the officials have been suspended, nor has any action been initiated against them.”

The controversy over Pokhara International Airport has drawn increasing political scrutiny in recent months, with multiple lawmakers raising concerns about cost overruns, alleged corruption, and project mismanagement.
