Nepali Congress extends deadline for active membership renewal

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has extended the deadline for renewing active memberships. Following its Central Working Committee meeting on Monday, the party issued a statement late at night announcing the revised timeline.

According to the statement issued by Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel, party units now have until the end of October to complete the membership renewal process and submit details to the central office.

The party has made it clear that any membership details not submitted within the given timeframe will not be considered valid for the upcoming 15th General Convention.

Previously, the Congress had set the deadline for the end July and planned to begin issuing new active memberships from mid-July.

The meeting also decided to form General Convention Management Committees, including the current chairpersons of the respective ad-hoc committees, to assist in the preparation and management of upcoming conventions for its sister organizations.

Several organizations, including the Nepal Women’s Association, Nepal Tarun Dal, Nepal Student Union, Nepal Dalit Association, Nepal Farmers’ Federation, Nepal Tharu Association, and Nepal Democratic Sports Association, have not held their conventions by the deadline set for the end of April.

While their tenure technically expired, those who submitted a convention schedule were granted an extension.

However, the meeting annulled all decisions made by the ad-hoc committees of sister organizations after the Chaitra deadline. It directed the Dalit Association—which has not yet submitted its schedule—to coordinate with the party’s Central Convention Directive Committee and its president to finalize one as soon as possible.

Additionally, the meeting approved amendments to the party’s Central Policy, Research and Training Institute Regulations 2025 and revised the Performance Guidelines for Nepali Congress Public Representatives, 2025.

It also approved statute amendments for the Nepal Student Union and Nepal Democratic National Transport Entrepreneurs Association.
