KATHMANDU: The BP Highway, severely damaged by last year’s September floods, is far from returning to its original condition.
After the Roshi River washed away sections of the road, the reconstruction contract was divided into four parts. However, progress remains slow.
A temporary diversion road has been built to allow vehicles to pass, but it remains unsafe. Heavy rainfall could once again wash away the route, and several sections are also at high risk of landslides.
In dry weather, the road is covered in dust; when it rains, vehicles get stuck in the mud.
Due to increasing rainfall risk, authorities have restricted vehicle movement on the road during evening hours for the next month.
