General convention must be held this year: Arjun Narsingh KC

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress central committee member Arjun Narsingh KC has said that the party’s 15th General Convention must be completed by around December.

Speaking during Thursday’s meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee, KC highlighted a clear date for the general convention must be finalized from the ongoing meeting itself. “The general convention must be held within December. This meeting must fix the exact date,” said KC.

He also questioned the party leadership’s definition of “on time” regarding the convention. Recalling multiple public assurances by party President Sher Bahadur Deuba that the general convention would be held on time, KC asked, “What exactly does ‘on time’ mean? Is it within December 2025 or December 2026? Or does it imply waiting for an additional six months citing constitutional or special circumstances?”

KC warned that any attempt to defer the general convention until after the next election would not only be legally and constitutionally invalid but could also invite a crisis over the party’s legitimacy.

“At times, we hear talk of holding the general convention after the elections. But that is not permissible under the constitution or party statute. We must be cautious, or it will put the party’s legal standing at risk,” he said.
