Security strengthened in Kathmandu Valley ahead of Xi’s visit

KATHMANDU: Security arrangements in Kathmandu have been strengthened ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Nepal on Saturday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Wednesday said Chinese President Xi is paying a two-day state visit to Nepal from Saturday.

Kathmandu’s security has been tightened, the Metropolitan Police Office Ranipokhari’s Chief Deputy Inspector General of Police Shailesh Thapa Chhetri said.

DIG Chhetri said they have prepared to mobilize security personnel as per the visit schedule of Xi.

According to him, they would leave no stone unturned on the part of the Nepal Police.

Additional human resources will be brought from outside the Valley for the security during the visit.

While the Nepal Army (NA) will be in the front line for the security of Xi, Nepal Police will be in the second cordon. Likewise, the Armed Police Force (APF) will be in the third circle. Similarly, the National Investigation Department will provide security from the fourth cordon.

Chinese President Xi is arriving on a two-day state visit to Nepal on Saturday at the friendly invitation of President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
