President Paudel emphasizes modern agricultural technology

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has stressed the importance of developing and expanding modern agricultural technology by activating the domestic labor force and human resources.

In a message on National Rice Day, he urged the promotion of rice-related food technologies and expressed concern over the rising import of rice.

President Paudel emphasized the need to end land abandonment, foster a strong work culture, and focus efforts on achieving self-reliance in rice production.

The message states, “I extend my best wishes that today’s observance inspires efforts to replace imports, ensure food security, and cultivate respect for agricultural labor by adopting climate-friendly rice cultivation technologies.”

National Rice Day has been celebrated annually in Nepal since 2061 BS to highlight agriculture’s importance, enhance rice production, and promote its modernization and commercialization. This year’s theme is “Intensification in Rice Crops: Food Security and Self-Reliance.”

President Poudel highlighted that the Constitution guarantees every citizen’s right to food, underscoring the need to promote rice farming to safeguard this fundamental right.

“Nepal is an agricultural country, and rice is the staple food for most people. Rice farming is deeply woven into Nepali society, with significant economic, social, cultural, religious, and touristic value,” he said.

He further noted the urgent need to increase rice production and productivity by raising awareness among the government, farmers, and stakeholders about the negative impacts of global climate change and the importance of crop diversification.
